Edited by Richard Koszarski. Dover Publications, 1984. Taken by the studios for promotional purposes, these snapshots now provide a fascinating glimpse of the greatest American directors at work. Included in the almost 200 photographs are film makers from the earliest period, Tod Browning, Charles Chaplin, Von Stroheim, D.W. Griffiths through to the modern greats Robert Redford, Woody Allen & Robert Altman.

In between are probably some of the greatest directors to work in cinema, Billy Wilder, Ernst Lubitsch, Alfred Hitchcock, John Huston and John Ford amongst them.
